# AI in Signal
> Signal uses AI throughout the platform to reduce workload, surface patterns, and help staff make better-informed safeguarding decisions.
Signal integrates AI across the platform to help you work more efficiently and make better-informed safeguarding decisions. From analysing incidents to drafting action plans, AI handles time-consuming tasks so you can focus on what matters most — supporting children and staff.
## AI capabilities
When you record an incident, AI suggests appropriate categories, locations, relevant events, and related policies based on the description you write.
AI generates an overview of a student's incident history, highlighting patterns, trends, and key concerns across all their records.
AI drafts action plan content based on the plan type and linked incidents, giving you a starting point that you review and refine.
AI reviews existing action plans and suggests updates based on recent incidents and monitor data, with a visual diff showing exactly what changed.
Uploaded documents are automatically analysed — AI extracts text and generates summaries, especially useful for scanned or lengthy files.
A chat interface where you can ask questions about your school's safeguarding data, from quick lookups to in-depth research.
## Data privacy and security
Signal processes all AI analysis securely within the platform. Your school's data is never used to train AI models, and all processing is carried out within Signal's secure infrastructure.
AI analysis is performed only on data within your school's account. Staff at other schools cannot see your data, and your data is not shared across schools.
## You are always in control
AI in Signal is designed to assist, not to replace your professional judgement. Every AI suggestion — whether it is a category recommendation, an action plan draft, or a research finding — is presented as a recommendation for you to review.
You always make the final decision. AI surfaces information and saves time, but safeguarding decisions remain with you and your team.
The more detail you provide — in incident descriptions, action plan context, and documents — the more accurate and useful AI suggestions become.
