- Which guidance does Signal check my policies against?
- Signal maintains a curated library of national guidance including Keeping Children Safe in Education, Working Together to Safeguard Children, Behaviour in Schools, Suspension and Permanent Exclusion, Searching, Screening and Confiscation, Working Together to Improve School Attendance, the SEND Code of Practice, and the Equality Act 2010 guidance for schools. Each policy is checked against the guidance mapped to its policy type.
- Does the AI review replace a proper policy review?
- No. The AI review is advisory — a thorough first pass, not a substitute for professional judgement. Findings should be verified against the cited guidance before you change anything, and marking a policy as reviewed is always a decision made by a person.
- How does Signal know when government guidance changes?
- Signal checks GOV.UK every week for new editions of the guidance in its library. When a new edition is published it replaces the old one automatically, a summary of what changed is generated, and the policies built on that guidance are flagged for review.
- Who can run policy reviews?
- Running an AI review and managing policies requires the DSL or Owner role. Guidance update alerts are visible to Owners, DSLs and Deputy DSLs.
- What happens to my old review report when I run a new one?
- Signal keeps the most recent review for each policy, so running a new review replaces the previous report. The document itself keeps its full version history.
